A dress well taken care of is a dress we can keep for a long time ! According to a study by BSR (Business for Social Responsibility), 40% of the carbon footprint of a garment is generated during the consumer use phase of the garment which means that you have more of a say in the carbon footprint of your wardrobe than you think!
Here are a few of our tips for taking care of your dresses:
1. Machine Washing your dress at 30°C
It is recommended to wash the printed dresses separately the first time, preferably with a color detergent. Afterwards you’ll be able to wash them with with a normal load at lower temperatures.
We highly recommend washing at 30°C or even cold washing with a low spin cycle (800 or lower) to make the dresses last longer, and also to use less electricity. We also recommend using a machine net, which limits the twisting and shearing of the fabric during washing.
A-rated washing machines are also less polluting and can save up to 50% in energy and water consumption per load. Do favor plant based washing powders free from phosphates or chlorine, which are bad for the skin and for the environment. We recommend that you look for Ecocert or Ecolabel labels, which guarantee better environmental standards.
2. Line dry your dress whenever possible
The dryer tends to burn and weaken the fibers. Line drying uses no electricity and actually takes better care of your clothes :) Drying out in the sun however tends to tarnish colors, so give your printed dress some shade.
Our cotton fabric does not bend out of shape so you’ll save time if you hang the dress out while drying.
3. Give your dress some space in your closet
Nothing is worse for your clothes than stuffing them in an already packed closet … it’s not good for the stitches and affects the shape and drape of the clothes. Hang your dress up without folding. Another tip : good quality hangers are a good investment !
